Food Pantry: Our client-choice food pantry, called Feeding God’s Children, is open from 1:00 - 4:30pm on the first 2 Tuesdays of every month. Many volunteers are needed to shop, stock shelves, and staff the pantry.
Our food pantry is serviced by Baxter Community Center. For a food pantry referral, contact Baxter (616) 456-8593.
Garden Project: Our new Community Garden provided an abundance of vegetables for our own Food Pantry as well as other pantries last year. Lots of helpers are needed from spring through fall in order to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for local families.
Garden boxes are available for community use on a first-come first served basis. Please contact the office at (616) 245-0578 to learn how to register for a box.
IHN/Family Promise: East Church is part of a network of Grand Rapids churches that provide shelter for families in need of temporary housing. East Church hosts families for a week at a time, 4 times a year. Volunteers provide dinners, oversee playtime, and/or stay overnight at the church. Training required.
Mission Trips: East Church has a connection with the SakJá community, in Guatemala, which is part of the United Church of Christ's Global Missions programs. Church members have made several trips there to help with the Waterfall Eco-Cultural Preservation Project. More trips are planned.
Closed during the summer months.
This resale shop, located in a building in the church parking lot, serves our neighborhood by offering gently used clothing and household goods at very affordable prices. Proceeds support church and community programs. Volunteers are needed to sort donations and staff the shop on Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:00am - 4:00pm, September - May. Donations always welcome.
